Workshops Options
Lantern Workshops bring out the communities creativity.
Lantern Workshops are fun, accessible and rewarding to virtually all skill levels.
The mix of construction, design, gluing and decoration engages almost everybody to give it a go.
People are encouraged to work in pairs or families to help each other hold the cane in place while it's being secured.
All artists are experienced, fully insured and have current blue cards.
The community workshops are delivered over a few hours or a whole day. Sometimes these require booking and sometimes they are delivered as a drop in.
2D constructions as well so everyone can have a go.
In the school workshops, 2 artists construct a larger more elaborate feature lantern with a class over 2 days.
Usually one or 2 classes will construct on behalf of a school. If it's a tiny school, everyone joins in.
As part of a larger community Installation or community event, the lanterns are donated into the Installation and returned to their makers after the event.
Full Day Workshop

CONSTRUCT AND DECORATE A MEDIUM SIZED LANTERN

The workshop can be tweaked to meet your needs. Multiple artists can deliver a larger workshop.

Community Artwork Installations
SITE SPECIFIC INSTALLATIONS
All the lantern pieces created in the community workshops are brought together in a beautiful cohesive Installation for the viewing pleasure of the community. The process of community art workshops and public installations creates an instant audience base and an community participation and ownership of an event.
Some coordination with council may be required depending on the site.
A LANTERN PARADE FOR YOUR EVENT
After running workshops with your community, I can then fit torches and lighting to the lanterns and facilitate a Lantern Parade to create that special atmosphere and engagement.
2 Day School Based Workshop

2 Artists for 2 school days or 1 Artists for 4 school days

CHILDREN CONSTRUCT AND DECORATE A FLAT SHAPE FROM
BAMBOO, CANE AND PAPER
I take small groups of 4 in rotating sessions. Some assistance/support is required and groups can be slightly
larger depending on the support available.
Children make an individual take home piece or a piece to be used as part of a group installation or themed decoration.
Each group will take approx. 30 min to construct and 20 min to paper and these activities can be broken up for short attention spans. Decorating will take another 20-30 min
Morning sessions from 9-12 work well or whatever suits your centre.
After School care and Primary students Workshop

small groups of 4 or 5 in rotating sessions. Some assistance/support is required and groups can be slightly
larger depending on the support available.
Children make an individual take home piece or a piece to
be used as part of a group installation or themed decoration.
Each group will take approx. 50min to construct and 40 min to paper and these activities can be broken up to suit timetables.
Decorating will take another 20-30 min.
